Which keyword tool you need
Keyword tools differ most in where their data comes from. All-in-one suites (Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz Pro, SE Ranking, Serpstat) estimate search volume and difficulty from their own databases and add competitor rankings. Google’s own tools come straight from Google: Keyword Planner shows monthly search estimates and the cost to target each keyword inside a Google Ads account, and Google Trends shows relative interest over time from a sample of searches rather than absolute volumes. Question and phrase tools (AlsoAsked, AnswerThePublic, KeywordsPeopleUse) collect what people ask, from People Also Ask, autocomplete and forums, for content planning. Specialists do one step: LowFruits looks for keywords with weak results, Keyword Insights clusters keywords by shared results, Exploding Topics tracks fast-growing topics, and Keywords Everywhere shows volume inside your browser.
For one site and a tight budget, the free options go a long way: Google Trends, the free account tiers of Mangools, Ubersuggest and Ahrefs, the free version of Keywords Everywhere, and the free daily searches on AnswerThePublic and AlsoAsked. Pay for a suite when you need competitor data, difficulty scores and volume at scale.

Reading keyword tool prices
Keyword tools meter use in different units, so the cheapest plan is not always the cheapest for your work. Credits: AlsoAsked’s Basic plan gives 100 credits a month, KeywordsPeopleUse’s Lite plan 150, LowFruits’ Standard plan 3,000, and Keyword Insights’ Basic plan 10,000, where clustering costs 1 credit a keyword and a brief 100. Daily limits: Keyword Tool’s Starter plan allows 50 requests a day. Billing: several prices here are the monthly equivalent of a yearly payment, which each listing says. Count how many keywords or questions you research in a month before comparing.
Once you have a list, the topical map generator groups it into a site structure and the intent classifier sorts it by what the searcher wants.
How this directory is built
Every price, plan, free option and trial here was read from the vendor’s own website on the date shown, and each tool links to the exact page it came from. Prices are written as the vendor showed them, in the currency it showed, with how they are billed: monthly, yearly or one-off. Some vendors show prices in a different currency depending on where you are, so check the source before you buy.
There are no ratings, rankings or paid placements, and no affiliate links. Tools are listed A to Z. Where a vendor does not publish a price, the listing says so rather than quoting a third party. Prices are rechecked every quarter; the date on each listing is the last time it was confirmed. If a listing is wrong or out of date, tell me and it will be corrected.
